Mary Lupi and her friend Laurie Crawford wanted to expand Yappy Tails Pet Services to provide quality retail products nation wide. Mary and Laurie have known each other for years. Their friendship started when there was a movement to start an off leash dog park in there community. Laurie spearheaded the movement and Mary with her boundless energy became a major contributor to the effort. We succeeded in the effort and Happy Tails Dog Park was opened in Bradenton, FL in May of 1999. The relationship did not end there because of our involvement in the animal community our organization, the Animal Network, morphed into an animal advocacy organization in Manatee County. We became very involved with different animal agencies in our community. We developed a relationship with our county's Animal Services (click on 'services' and then 'animal services') to try and get the high kill numbers reduced. We met with county officials to make changes in laws for the betterment of animals. We lobbied for a new county adoption facility that is now in the building phase slated to open in the fall of 2006. We organized a committee called ACT, Animal Cruelty Team, which met with prosecutors and attended court proceedings to make sure those accused of animal cruelty can see justice done for voiceless animals.
We are very excited to start our new venture. We are trying to bring fun and interesting products for pet lovers around the country.
